Perversion Magazine
Layouts | Campaigns
I was responsible for typesetting, designing, promoting, and assisting in the redesign of Perversion Magazine, an arts, literature, and culture magazine based out of Jacksonville, FL. Perversion’s edgy, artistic style strongly influences its layouts.
Initial Content Selection
Over the months after an issue release, Perversion would receive a multitude of entries in hopes of being published. Sometimes out writers and editors would seek out a specific story pertaining to local or national issues.
Visual Process
After content was selected we would begin the process of dividing and conquering layouts. We went through multiple rounds of revisions and often hung each page on the wall to determine pagination, as well as cohesion.
Layout Refresh
Prior to releasing issue 5, we decided it was time to refresh out layout toolkit. It was necessary to better showcase the vibrancy and sense of urgency that coincided with the hot topic content and works of art being published. The original guidelines consisted of a lot of desaturated photography and thin typefaces. With the new toolkit, we chose to break the typical grid and use big, bold blocks of color.
Promotion
All assets had to reflect the persona of the Perversion brand. All Perversion Magazine promotion had an edge to it, whether that be in it imagery, layout, or content.
