Modern Glass is a display typeface inspired by stained glass windows. Its intricate latticework is based on perfect circles which mimic many modern typefaces, hence its name. It is perfect for drop caps and posters.
Process
Initial sketches were used to establish the shapes of each letter. Since the typeface design heavily relied on the precision and geometry of each shape, digital comps of the foundational letters were created, followed by rough sketches of the poster and storyboards of the animated video.
Typeface Measurements
Each letter is based on a perfect circle, as well as other geometric shapes. The curvature of the wave-like shapes acts as a contrast to the harsh edges and points like those on M.
Promotional Poster
The accompanying poster shows the type in its inspired context of art nouveau glass windows. The shapes, colors, and fact that it is printed on transparency paper mimic art nouveau glass windows.
Promotional Video
The animated video showcases the typeface in use and explains its inspiration. The transitions used throughout emphasizes the type’s unique elements and shapes.
